Elon Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg invited to Trump inauguration.
Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony in Washington on Monday will have giants from across the business and tech worlds in attendance, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Meta will end its fact-checking program with trusted partners and replace it with a community-driven system similar to X’s Community Notes.
Zuckerberg said announced a series of major changes to the company’s moderation policies and practices, citing a shifting political and social landscape and a desire to embrace free speech.
The company is also changing its content moderation policies around political topics and undoing changes that reduced the amount of political content in user feeds, Zuckerberg said.
“We’re going to get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our policies and restoring free expression on our platforms,” Zuckerberg said in a video. “More specifically, here’s what we’re going to do. First, we’re going to get rid of fact-checkers and replace them with community notes similar to X, starting in the U.S.”
“We’re going to work with President Trump to push back on governments around the world,” Zuckerberg said.
“They’re going after American companies and pushing to censor more. The US has the strongest constitutional protections for free expression in the world.
“Zuckerberg did state that this was only in the US, but I think that this is a major strategic shift and perhaps ideological shift in terms of its content moderation policy,” he said.
“I think that there’s going to be ripples of implications for independent fact-checking and independent fact-checkers around the world.”

This Week, in the message shared with Meta staff, Zuckerberg told employees he had “decided to raise the bar on performance management and move out low performers faster.”
“We typically manage out people who aren’t meeting expectations over the course of a year, but now we’re going to do more extensive performance-based cuts during this cycle — with the intention of backfilling these roles in 2025.”
The CEO said the performance-based cuts are intended to ensure that the company has the “strongest talent” and is able to “bring new people in.”
We won’t manage out everyone who didn’t meet expectations for the last period if we’re optimistic about their future performance, and for those we do let go we’ll provide generous severance in line with what we’ve provided with previous cuts.
We’ll follow up with more guidance for managers ahead of calibrations. People who are impacted will be notified on February 10 — or later for those outside the US.
Letting people go is never easy. But I’m confident this will strengthen our teams and help us build leading technology to enable the future of human connection.
